The work location of an employee is an important factor in tax calculations and accurate overtime classification. With Everee you can keep each hourly and salaried employee’s work location up to date.
How work locations affect taxes
An employee’s work location is one factor in determining accurate tax amounts. In many cases, employers are required to withhold taxes based on employees’ home and work locations. Taxes due may be subject to special calculations when an employee lives and works in two different cities, counties, or states. Everee automatically calculates and withholds the correct tax amounts using both addresses as needed.
How work locations affect overtime classification
Some states have complex overtime requirements, and it’s important to know which set of rules each employee is subject to. Setting an employee’s work location allows us to accurately classify overtime the right way. Everee automatically classifies overtime as needed according to each employee’s work location.
Choosing an employee’s work location
When adding a new employee or moving an employee from one location to another, you can select the right location in the field called “Work Location”. You can choose any location you’ve set up in the Locations screen (in the Organization section), or select “Worker’s home address” to indicate that the employee works from home, or is typically headquartered more at home than at a physical location of your business.
In order to calculate taxes and classify overtime accurately and consistently, an employee’s worklocation can only change at the beginning of their workweek. When changing an employee’s work location, you can simply select the week you want the change to take effect, and we’ll schedule the change to happen automatically.
Note: the “Worker’s home address” option is the default setting for employee records that don’t have any other option selected. You can review the employees linked to each location by clicking each location in the “Locations” screen, and make any changes needed in the employee’s profile screen.
